1. How much time do you dedicate to learning design every day?
I know it sounds cheesy, but I think that every moment is learning design.
I find that every moment of downtime goes to imagining new projects and forms, and every conversation somehow influences and inputs the way that I work. And that’s not even counting the hours of research, reading and walking through the city just taking it in. Every experience you have is design.

2. What other designers do you have contact with on a regular basis?
I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of good friends and peers that have influenced me immensely in their process, thinking and aesthetic.

Mike Davis (MPLS), Bryan Haker (NY), Greg Hubacek (MPLS), Adam Flanagan (NY), Mikey Burton (Philly), Justin Elias (painter/NY), Josef Reyes (NY).

Others that I can say I’m friends with that I look up to: Justin Kay, Mike Perry, Eric Carlson, Travis Stearns, Emily Magnuson, J Zachary Keenan, Andy Rementer, Namdev Hardisty. The list goes on.

3. Who are the top 2-3 designers that you respect and why?
Wow. This is a tough one. There are so many amazing designers, each for their own reasons. I’ll just throw some out there in no particular order:

1. Kevin Lyons (for his multidisciplinary approach)
2. Stefan Sagmeister (for his philosophy and process)
3. Massimo Vignelli (for his rigidness and structure)

4. What’s your favorite website or design you ever made and why?
Hard to say. One of my favorite recent projects was a chair cover design for the classic Paulistano Chair for Design Within Reach. It was nice exploring a personal method of creation for me (calligraphy/hand-type) that was simple, good and was applied to an object that was new to experiment with. I’d really like to get more into pattern, 3-dimensional design and environmental design, so it was a fun project. Also, taking the end product and branding it is always fun.

5. Have you ever been published in a book or magazine? What books or magazines?
I’ve been featured in a few books and mags. I had a feature in iDn, the book For Sale by HOW Books, HandJob: A Catalog of Type by Princeton Architectural Press, the book The Rest is Up To You, by AyeJay Moreno, and I’ve done work with Two.One.Five Magazine, Philadelphia CityPaper, Minneapolis CityPages, Seattle Weekly and Kiwi Magazine.

6. What’s your favorite color in hexadecimal? How often do you find yourself leaning towards it with design projects?
Don’t have one. I do like Adam R Garcia color#FFFFFF, Adam R Garcia color#000000 and yellow though Adam R Garcia color#FFFF00?

7. What’s your most recent project we can look at?
Just wrapped up a poster for Ra Ra Riot. Good times. Good times.
