Jon Phillips worlds best Web Designer

1. How much time do you dedicate to learning design every day?
I usually spend at least 30 minutes a day but if I have time it can be 2 hours or more.

2. What other designers do you have contact with on a regular basis?
I’m often in contact either via email, Skype or Twitter with Mike Smith,
Selene M. Bowlby,
Mason Hipp (I actually sold him FreelanceFolder in August last year and he’s been running the site since),
Grace Smith and
Ken Styles. Of course the list is much longer and I often talk to other designers via Twitter or TinyChat.

3. Who are the top 2-3 designers that you respect and why?
Chris Spooner: Chris is great and I had the pleasure of working with him on a project a while ago and he’s quick and efficient, really a skilled designer.
Jason Santa Maria: Definitely for his excellent work and also for his mad typography skills. He’s a a huge source of inspiration.
Collis Ta’eed: I have utmost respect for Collis, not only because he’s a great designer but also because he understands the business of design. I also very much like that he’s got a very memorable and eye-catching design style.

4. What’s your favorite website or design you ever made and why? (link)
I would say one of my favorite is the one I’m currently working on for my personal site. It’s not online yet because I’m putting the final touches to it, but it should see the light of day in a couple days/weeks. The screenshot will come later :)

5. Have you ever been published in a book or magazine? What books or magazines?
Yes, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing one of my previous projects, FreelanceFolder featured in a book from MaoMao Publications titled Blogs – Mad About Design. Definitely a great feeling to see your work in a book.

6. What’s your favorite color in hexadecimal? How often do you find yourself leaning towards it with design projects?
My favorite color is Jon Phillips color#990000. I try not to use this color too much though because I’m sure if I see it too often I’ll eventually get sick of it. Of all my personal sites, only my own blog, SpyreStudios.com, has hints of that dark red color.

7. What’s your most recent project we can look at?
That would be Design-Newz. Make sure you stop by if you’re a designer or developer. I try to collect the best design/development-related articles and tutorials from all around the web and link to them all from one central location!
