I used to drink a lot, as I’m sure many of you drunks do out there. Now you can create your own Vodka letters melting on ice effect with this photoshop tut. It’s not really melting exactly, but I like the way I present the light hitting off the letters and it appears to be icy so I’m going with it.

Step 1 – Create a new image 500px x 500px with a black background color. Use a block font and type out your word. I used Vodka (even though it doesn’t melt, because it never freezes). Font color #23abc4.

Step 2 – Turn the image on it’s side (to the left). Go to Filter and scroll down and choose Blur. Add a Motion Blur. You can also add a Radial Blur. Don’t stress about the amount of blur, just do what looks good to you.

Step 3 -Turn the image back to its horizontal position. Open a new layer. In the new layer (top) retype your word again this time using the color #1735ff. Your image should look similar to the one above.

Step 4 – On the same layer – Highlight the word and add a stroke to it. I used a gradient stroke to give the last 2 letters a nice white stroke and the first 3 letters a darker stroke. Make sure your stroke looks like mine. Size 1, Opacity 68% – Style of the Gradient set to Linear.

Step 5 – We now give the last letter a melting effect. You want to choose Liquify and set the brush size to 121. Larger brushes work best. Don’t make it too big though. This part is all completed by viewing it and changing it as needed. I couldn’t begin to tell you how to make it exactly as I have because of many factors, type of mouse your using, surface your mouse is on, steadiness of your hand, dust, how drunk you are, and many other factors.

Step 6 -I don’t have a finished version of the above picture, not knowing how yours came out. Moving on to the shape of liquid. We’re looking to make a small puddle now. Choose a new layer. On that layer – Choose the Shape tool and grab the one I have circled.

Make your puddle this color #0F82C4.

Double click the layer and your Blending Options will appear. Choose Bevel and Emboss. Double click the Bevel and Emboss and then you can Choose the Pillow Emboss effect. Yours may differ, but I made the Depth 21%, Size 6 and Soften 2. Move your layer down, behind the text layers.

Do you have an image like this? Yes? Then you’re doing good!

It looks strange to me that the last 2 letters are floating on top of the puddle when they should be sinking into it. To fix this you can draw a new line and add a curve to it, or just use your Pen tool to make the line. You can also make a small drop of liquid on the right side to make it look more realistic. I made the drop with the oval and gave it a shadow. It needs to be the same color as the puddle to make it appear correctly.

Use these settings to make your drop look realistic.
