Sarah Parmenter black and white

1. How much time do you dedicate to learning design every day?
Not enough. If I see a great blog post, then I’ll take time to read through it, but I tend to stack lots of things up to read throughout the day and rarely get time to read them all. Learning anything else, I tend to read books at the weekends and in the evenings to keep up to date.

2. What other designers do you have contact with on a regular basis?
Elliot Jay Stocks,
Dan Rubin,
Sam Brown,
Andy Clarke,
Tim Van Damme,
Ryan Taylor to name a few – they’re all super nice people and all really interesting even if you take the common interest of the web away. I’ve never met a more friendly community than the web community, it is also a great asset to all of us.

3. Who are the top 2-3 designers that you respect and why?
I don’t respect certain people more than another as I think we are all pushing the web industry in the right direction bit by bit, we all contribute, help and guide.

4. What’s your favorite website or design you ever made and why? (link)
Although it’s not a website, my favourite design has been doing the User Interface for Clarus on the iPhone, it was my first dip into iPhone development and from there forward, I was certain this is where I want to be heading. youknowwhodesign.com/portfolio/clarus_ui Although the actual app is available on the iTunes store next week hopefully?

5. Have you ever been published in a book or magazine? What books or magazines?
Not a book as yet, I’d like to write a book about client interaction and how to deal with common problems and challenges that a startup business might face but not be ready for. In 7 years, I’ve had my fair share of problems, challenges and wacky client requests, enough to write a book!

Magazines, I’ve been published in .net magazine, a while back they did a double page spread on You Know Who, as a studio, it’s evolved a lot since then but I’ve had a couple of contributions since to other articles and submissions.

6. What’s your favorite color in hexadecimal? How often do you find yourself leaning towards it with design projects?
Sarah Parmenter top color used#a14e73 – just because I love muted colours. Purple is actually my favourite colour but it’s quite hard to use in web design, despite You Know Who being entirely purple, I’ve never found I could use it in a client situation.

7. What’s your most recent project we can look at?
On the back of another iPhone User Interface I designed, I was asked to create the website with the same look and feel as the app, so this is what I’ve been working on last week. youknowwhodesign.com/portfolio/mey_iphone_app_website

We asked Alfie (the dog) –
Q – How’s life treating you?
A – “Ruff”

He must miss her a lot when she’s at work. Ah. :)
