PHP Hosting vs ASP Hosting
Nov 29th
PHP and ASP are probably the two most common types of server-side scripting languages used, but understanding what that is and which one you should choose can be a little confusing, especially to someone who doesn’t know a lot about the complex world of website building.
An ordinary web page is made up of a Hyper Text Markup Language, or HTML, file. This is a text file that describes how to render a web page. It is stored on a special computer that is connected to the internet a high speeds, called a server. Whenever a user wants to access that web page, they use special software called a browser to load the web page. The browser requests the HTML file over the internet, and then interprets it to make it into a web page. You probably already know some or most of that, but making sure that you understand it is essential to explaining how ASP and PHP function.

It’s Our Birthday!
Aug 3rd
Today is our official birthday on BoxedinDesign! With all our friends help (that includes you), we made it to 1 year!
Not only are my pets proud but so is the guy who comes by on a cart and sells sodas and snow cones. Your support has made our daily visitors continue to grow. I hear the first year is the hardest because it’s when bloggers give up because of the monthly fees associated with keeping the site up and running.

Long Time Between Posts Update
Jun 18th
Thanks for hanging in there designers. I had my laptop stolen and was without for a sort period. Got a new one, upgraded to WordPress 3.0, spammed a bunch of posts and now ready to continue where we left off. I will do 1-2 post this weekend to make up for the long spell between posts.
It’s nice to see through my Google Analytics that my friends didn’t leave me. Thanks for still visiting my blog and seeing what I’m up to and using the other resources or reading the great interviews. You guys are the best!
If you run a blog of your own, make sure to update to WordPress 3.0 today. I think that it helps kill off that nasty virus I got from (should I say shared servers)? I guess I will never know where it came from, but it only killed my CSS pages so I had to work off the server when updating the backend.
I’m in the process of making some of my own videos now too. Got myself a video camera (Flip) and a green screen ($12 at Goodwill).
If anyone here would like to have their design work featured in my video, please post a message in the comments below with “Pick me, pick me!” or a link to your design work so the whole community can check it out.
Thanks!
*Update – I just noticed that the new version of the theme did an overwrite of all my custom PHP work. Sweet! (add in bad language here).
BuySellAds Review
Apr 17th
Many of you designers have blogs and might find it hard to sell ad space for your sites. We were in the same way. Finding ads is one thing, and dealing with every one of them is a project. Some of my older sites would have 10 ads at once. Trying to correspond to all the requests and then sending out PayPal invoices was overwhelming. Then came BuySellAds!
